CRITICAL REFLECTION ON SLOVAK LITERARY AND TRANSLATOLOGICAL RESEARCH IN THE CONTEXT OF THE WESTERN EUROPEAN TRADITION AND THE CURRENT FORM OF HUMANITIES
The project seeks to engage with original concepts, theories, and schools of thought in Slovak literary studies and translation studies, contributing to the ongoing revitalization of the humanities in Western Europe. It approaches the renewed notion of humanitas both within the framework of the shared cultural heritage of the West and in response to the challenges posed by an increasingly digitalized society. The study will explore the evolution of scholarly discourse in Slovakia, which took shape in the socio-cultural context of the socialist regime from the 1960s onward. This intellectual tradition has left a lasting imprint on literary and translation studies in the early decades of democracy and continues to resonate within these disciplines. The research will focus on theoretical frameworks and methodological approaches to literary texts that examine their influence on both individual and collective consciousness, considering the dynamics of creation and reception. These inquiries will be pursued from both diachronic and synchronic perspectives, as well as through intercultural and interliterary lenses. By identifying the distinctive components of literary works, the project aims to establish conceptual foundations and develop analytical tools for uncovering meaning in literary texts, reinforcing the humanistic and transformative potential of literary scholarship and education.
The findings will be integrated into university research environments. In its initial phase, the project will focus on universities in Spain, Italy, and France, a direction informed by the team’s scholarly expertise and preliminary research outcomes. This stage will involve the preparation of a critical anthology and its translation into Spanish. In the second phase, the project will delve deeper into the phenomenon of literary interpretation, recognizing it as a key instrument for fostering independent critical thought while also cultivating emotional intelligence. The research outputs will be disseminated both in print and through interactive digital platforms, reaching audiences both internationally and within Slovakia.
